2005 Honda Accord EX-L

This car was once a top of the line model. When you look under the hood, it's the perfect blend of Japanese Engineering and minimal software regulation, putting it in the sweet spot of running forever and easy to work on. The interior is comfortable, full of features that even now don't come standard on most models, and has that durable, Honda vibe to the car that exudes simplicity and practical comfort. The only jarring feature of this car is the touch screen. Back in the day, this was a highly advanced screen with more options than a lot of phones had; in today's smart phone era, it is a nostalgic blast from the past. Unlike most modern touchscreen technology pieces, this one was designed to last as long as possible, and while archaic, it still functions accurately! It's not quite old enough to have a cassette deck, but it does have a CD player, although I couldn't round one up to test it. The sleek black leather of the seats are comfortably broken in after 198k miles, but in very good shape considering, with no holes or tears and minimal sun damage despite the dark coloration.

Mechanically, this car only needed an oil change and some associated minor fixes. It passed both the smog and safety inspection first try, and is ready to roll another hundred thousand miles. It has a fairly powerful 4 cylinder engine, with a 2.4L I4 that generates 160 horsepower while managing to produce an impressive 21 MPG in the city and an exceptional 31 MPG on the highway. Sure, it looks fairly basic on the road, but it looks simple in the way that cars built to last look, not like no one cared. Even the silver on this car has aged exceptionally well, which is not always the case for Hondas of this era.
